Woodwork

Carpentry is a part of woodworking that involves joining together pieces of wood to create furniture, structures, toys and other items. Some wood joints use fasteners, fasteners, or adhesives, while others use elements of bois.Les characteristics of timber joints - strength, flexibility, strength, appearance, etc. - derive from the properties of the assembly materials and how they are used in the joints. Therefore, different joinery techniques are used to meet different requirements. For example, the joinery used to build a house is different from that used to make puzzle toys, although some concepts overlap.

Traditional wood joints
Butt joint the end of a piece of wood is plated with another piece of wood. This is the simplest and common lower.
Miter joint, similar to a butt joint, but the two pieces were cut at an angle of 45 degrees.
Lap joints; a piece of wood overlap another.
Box joint, also called a finger joint, used for the corners of boxes. It is attached to the receipt of several at the ends of two boards.
Dovetail joint, a common form of box where the fingers are locked together by diagonal cuts.
Edge common edges of two panels are connected.
Dado Joint, a slit is cut in the grain of one piece to another piece to put in; shelves on a shelf having cut slits on the sides of the plate, for example.
Joint Groover; housing is cut with the grain.
Tongue and groove. Each piece has a groove cut along one edge and a thin ridge depth (the language) on the opposite side. If the language is free, it is considered a joint spline.
Mortise and tenon, a heel (the tenon) fits well in a hole for her (the mortise). This is a feature of the Mission-style furniture, and also the traditional method of jointing frame and panel members on the doors, windows and cabinets

Non-traditional wood joints
pocket hole joinery, hidden screw is driven into the joint at an angle.
Joints using metal connectors, which are attached to the structure with nails or screws.
[Edit] Improving the traditional means of joints
Ankles, where a small rod is used internal to a joint project to help bring both the glue and permanently strengthen the joint.
[Edit] nontraditional ways of improving joint
Biscuit joints, where a cookie is used to help align a board or flat gasket glue-up.
Domino jointer, a tool mark similar to a biscuit jointer, where a large piece of a biscuit has some of the benefits of ankles, and some of the benefits of cookies.

Wood Properties
Many techniques of woodwork, or depend upon or compensate for the fact that the wood is anisotropic: its material properties are different along various dimensions.
Assembly of wooden parts together, must take into account, otherwise the town is doomed to failure. Paste boards with the grain perpendicular to the other is often why boards Split or broken joints. Furniture of the 18th century, but made by master craftsmen, has not taken into account. The result is a masterwork suffers broken foot support, which has often been attached with a cement block that ran perpendicular to the base pieces. The glue blocks were fixed with both glue and nails, causing expansion and contraction between dissimilar pieces. This was also the cause of the separation of planks, which are commonly used during this period.
In modern woodworking, it is even more critical, such as heating and cooling because of major changes in the moisture content of wood. All wood joints should take into account these changes, and allow the resulting motion.
